Mulk Raj Anand wrote for the masses. Not for them as much as about them. Them with no tongue or no means to utilize a tongue. I have been forever amazed by writer's of yester years. The imminent urgency for stories like how Mulk Raj Anand reveals has made him a legend. He pens exact. He pens pain. Shame. Oppression. Outcast.

Untouchable sat in my wish list for a very long time till it was 2015. The day I read Untouchable. Yesterday night, I again revisited parts of it. The ones that I had underlined. Peculiar like the privilege with which I read this heartbreaking book championing a cause which disgusts and opens pores, I had to finally mark around those under lines today. This just shows how a book can grow on you. Such a book grows forever. It must. Teach.

No catch words no cheap phrases. This has to be one of the most poignant books ever written by an Indian author on cast- sensitivities.

The sweeper has come for bread.

Read to visualize how it feels to be an untouchable, an outcast in a sea- where words are raw and piercing.
